Workplace is a communication tool that connects everyone in a company, even if they’re working remotely. Employees use familiar Facebook-like features; Groups, Chat, Rooms, and Live video broadcasting for better communication and collaboration.
A dynamic home for static content
Knowledge Library is a place for companies to easily create, store, and share static content like HR policies or working from home advice on desktop or mobile.
It’s simple for People Executives to publish and share the most up to date information for their employees without IT support. The published content sits alongside their Chat threads, Group posts, and Live videos to make all their company knowledge accessible and discoverable.
Knowledge Library was designed to be customizable so users can choose how it looks and what information people see. Today, few intranet or enterprise benefits information solutions have easy creation tools for quick publishing or great experiences consuming content on mobile.
Facebook and organizations around the world use Workplace to join people together and get more done. There are over 5m paying subscribers on Workplace.
The Problem: The average employee wastes over 9 hours a week searching for critical company information like time off or travel policies. Knowledge Library makes people more productive by bringing it all together in a single place. Use simple tools to create content, attach files, share links, and customize what people see - on desktop and mobile. Whatever a company’s employees are looking for, Workplace is where they’ll find it.
As a Product Design Manager, I oversee the product strategy, design, and user experience of the Knowledge Library feature we shipped through Workplace. I manage and recruited a team of product designers and UX researchers designing internal and external Knowledge Management software for Facebook.
Solution
The solution we landed on was creating a dynamic home for the company’s static content. Human Resources and benefits people can easily and quickly customize the way their information is displayed. The content is then on Workplace and invites engagement through comments and sharing. And because it works on mobile, it’s simple for people to access wherever they are.
Knowledge Library was designed with a simple composer and an intuitive interface. By utilizing pre-made templates, users can quickly make high-quality pages efficiently. Employees who visit Knowledge Library see personalized pages with easy access to the most relevant information.
Results
Knowledge Library in Workplace launched externally in early 2020 on schedule under very tight time frames. The team exceeded its goals for adoption and usage. The product continues to gain ground as we add more features and functionality.
